Know your Food, Know your Farmers

Cedar Brae Farms was born from the desire to be more in touch with our food. We started raising cattle just for ourselves and close friends and family. We experienced a few hiccups along the way (read: cattle wanting to explore the world beyond the fence), but we loved having a close connection with our food supply. Not only was the work enjoyable, but we noticed a significant difference in taste between the meat that is raised 150 feet from our kitchen and the meat we bought at our grocery store.

We believe in transparent, ethical and sustainable food production. This little operation is just our way of contributing to a food supply system that we believe in.

Our Priorities

Sustainability.

We believe in a sustainable food supply where food is grown, processed, and consumed in a way that is both environmentally and economically sustainable. By selling direct, we are able to minimize the carbon footprint of our food while ensuring that all those involved in the production process are able to reinvest in their business for the future.

Regeneration.

We practice rotational and multi-species grazing which promotes and increases soil and environmental health. The relationships that are formed between animal, grass, and soil help increase carbon sequestration and stimulate bio-diversity both above and below the soil surface.

Transparency.

We are passionate about producing food in an open and transparent manner. This not only informs our daily practices, but also how we market. Yes, our animals are fed non-GMO cereals. But did you know there’s actually no such thing as GMO cereals? Instead of resorting to common marketing tactics, we aim to partner with consumers and encourage food literacy.

Pasture with a Purpose.

At Cedar Brae Farms, we are passionate about people and serving the most vulnerable in our communities. This is why we have committed to donating 10% of our proceeds from every sale to Bridgenorth, a survivor founded and survivor led organization that works with victims of sex trafficking in Ontario.
